The Battles
Chris Lytle (5’11” 170)
vs. Brian Foster (5’10” 170)
Welterweight
Referee:

4.53:
Chris hurled a right thunderbolt that Brian dodged before retaliating via
a straight right and a high kick taken on Chris’s mitts.
4.45:
Brian picked up Chris and slammed him into the canvas. These guys were
banging like a box of lightning.
4.37:
They
stood.
4.26:
Foster leg-kicked.
4.07:
He landed a right.
4.02:
Lytle caught Foster with a right hook and Foster missed with a leg combo.
3.41:
Lytle
whiplashed Foster’s head with a left hook. The pace was off the charts.
3.29:
They
clashed and became entangled as Brian looked for Chris’s back; however in
the tumbling to the ground Chris wrapped on a brutal knee bar.

Mirko Cro Cop (6’2” 234) vs. Anthony Perosh (6’3” 216)
Heavyweight

Round One
Southpaw
Mirko came after Anthony in his usual Terminator style and Anthony kept
his guard high, respecting Mirko’s firepower.
4.37:
Anthony avoided Mirko’s high kick and they sparred.
4.27:
Anthony took Mirko down on one knee and Mirko pounded away with hammer
fists before standing and taking Anthony down in a guillotine.
3.58:
Cro Cop released Perosh, choosing to fight toe-to-toe.
3.31:
Perosh
inside-kicked.
3.23:
Cro Cop stunned Perosh with a combo; Perosh attempted a takedown, but Cro
Cop shrugged him off and called for him to stand.
2.59:
Mirko warded off another takedown.
2.15:
Anthony was desperate to fight horizontally, but Mirko thwarted the
takedown attempts.
2.02:
Mirko hurt Anthony with a left and dragged him to the floor before
g’n’p-ing, then ordering Anthony up.
0.42:
Mirko body-kicked and continued to stalk his opponent.
Round Two
This was
a tough bout for Perosh, having taken Ben Rothwell’s spot at the last
minute and fighting in a heavier weight division. But Perosh showed great
ticker by stepping up to the plate under such circumstances. This round
was a replay of the previous one with Cro Cop landing more damaging blows.
It was good to see a fighter the caliber of Cro Cop competing Down Under;
however the mismatch accomplished little for either combatant.
Result: Mirko Cro Cop by TKO –
5.00, Round Two.
Ryan Bader (6’2” 205) vs. Keith Jardine
(6’2” 205)
Light Heavyweight
Referee: Josh Rosenthal

Round One
Keith
looked to unsettle Ryan with unorthodox angles of attack and oddball
strikes, but Ryan remained methodical and stuck to his game plan.
4.34:
Ryan
forced Keith’s back into the fence as they clinched.
4.15:
The pair
parted before Jardine attacked with ballistic fists; however Bader
absorbed a lot of the punches with his guard. They proceeded to broadside
whilst exchanging heavy gunfire.
3.01:
Bader ducked under Jardine’s blow and took him down, then fought from half
guard. Bader g’n’ped while looking to improve his position.
0.36:
Josh Rosenthal stood them up.
Round Two
4.45:
Ryan leg-kicked.
4.29:
Keith returned it.
4.17:
Keith sprawled against Ryan’s shoot and they tied up against the cage.
3.39:
They parted.
3.14:
Keith warded off another takedown before the pair clinched.
2.28:
They broke free. Jardine was picking off Bader with single shots and
calling him to turn up the heat. Bader tackled Jardine in the dying
moments of the round.
Round Three
The
sparring resumed with the fight probably being even at this stage.
3.30:
Ryan
chalked up another takedown; however Keith sprang back up in the clinch.
3.21:
Ryan
broke free.
2.56:
He tagged Keith with a right hook, followed up with a leaping knee, and
closed shop with a left hook.
Result: Ryan Bader by KO –

George Sotiropoulos (5’10” 155) vs. Joe
Stevenson (5’7” 155)
Lightweight

Round One
They
sparred until 4.24 when George seized Joe’s right leg before Joe hopped
free and the pair remained clinched.
3.56:
Joe collapsed to the canvas and took George with him.
3.36:
Sotiropoulos fought from Stevenson’s guard.
3.28:
Sotiropoulos passed to half guard.
1.38:
George
stood and rained down blows, then Joe scored a direct hit with an up-kick
and George fell into side control.
1.02:
George mounted Joe, then took his back as the furious scrambling
continued.
0.19:
Sotiropoulos went for a kimura before mounting Stevenson as the first five
came to a close.
Round Two
4.46:
Joe tested a left hook.
4.25:
George buckled Joe with a left.
4.09:
Joe inside-kicked.

And
again.

George put together left-right combos and was getting the better of the
knuckle exchange.
2.48:
Stevenson shot in and notched up a takedown; Sotiropoulos got the rubber
guard – courtesy of Eddie Bravo – as Stevenson pushed him into the wires.

Sotiropoulos attempted an omoplata; Stevenson avoided the submission as
the pair fought furiously for dominance.

George sought an arm bar. Again, Joe evaded the submission before falling
into George’s guard.

Joe was
unable to catch George with an ankle lock.
Round Three
The
toe-to-toe resumed.
4.10:
Sotiropoulos scooped up Stevenson’s kick; they scrambled and stood in the
clinch.
3.07:
The pair broke free and banged. Sotiropoulos had the edge in the standup
and the grappling.
1.44:
Joe had half guard.
1.13:
George took Joe into full guard.
0.41:
They
stood.
0.34:
Joe scored a takedown but George smothered his offense.
Result: George Sotiropoulos by
unanimous decision.
Wanderlei Silva (5’11” 185) vs. Michael Bisping (6’2” 185)
Middleweight
Referee: Josh Rosenthal

Yesterday the Sydney fans showed their support for Wanderlei Silva at the
weigh-ins, and today the crowd make it clear they’re behind Wanderlei for
this one. AC/DC played here the night before, but the roar from the
cranked-up mob would easily rival any Acca-Dacca show. After all the big
talk, Michael Bisping can’t wait to shake Silva’s hand as Josh Rosenthal
brings them together at center ring. But Wanderlei just wants to fight.
Round One
4.35:
Michael
inside-kicks.
4.22:
He takes Wanderlei’s kick on the mitts.
4.18:
Wanderlei leg-kicks.
4.01:
Michael takes Wanderlei to the mat; Wanderlei stands and gets taken back
down.
3.49:
They’re standing.
3.27:
Silva blocks a kick and counters with the jab.
3.15:
Bisping
inside-kicks.
2.41:
He scores another takedown before they spring back up.
2.27:
Silva leg-kicks.
1.40:
He delivers a left and a right to the body.
1.15:
Silva cranks it up with a barrage of fists.
1.04:
He backs Bisping up with more knuckles.

Bisping unloads a right. Silva closes the round punishing Bisping with
heavy leather.
Round Two
4.41:
Wanderlei inside-kicks.
4.25:
He buckles Michael’s lead leg with more inside kicks.
4.10:
Wanderlei catches Michael’s kick and sweeps him to the floor, then takes
half guard before Michael maneuvers him into full guard.
3.17:
Wanderlei stands and blasts a kick into the midsection. They bang it out.
1.59:
Bisping
scores a takedown and drops into side control, but Silva easily escapes
and stands.
0.51:
Silva
targets Bisping’s legs with a series of nasty kicks.
0.17:
Michael gets the takedown; however Wanderlei is waiting for him with a
guillotine. The bell sounds as Wanderlei ends another round convincingly.
Round Three
4.37:
Silva works his kicks again.
4.19:
Bisping lands a left hook.
3.38:
Silva sends in a right cross.
3.15:
He cops a kick in the bearings from Bisping and the crowd boos its
disapproval as Josh calls time out.
3.05:
Bisping kicks to the body and Silva kicks to Bisping’s lead leg. They
bang it out some more.
1.37:
Wanderlei cops a poke in the eye and the crowd boos its disapproval again.
1.11:
Wanderlei turns up the heat, like a Brazilian Paris Hilton beer ad, and
throws wild haymakers.
0.55:
He catches Michael’s left kick and sweeps the other.
0.10:
Silva closes yet another round well with a savage right hook that flattens
Bisping. Josh rushes in, but the hooter signals the end of the fight.
Bruce Buffer announces the Wanderlei Silva victory and the crowd goes
troppo. The locals have made Wanderlei an Honorary Aussie.

Result: Wanderlei Silva by
unanimous decision.
Cain Velasquez (6’1” 243) vs. Antonio
Minotauro Nogueira (6’3” 234)
Heavyweight
Referee: Herb Dean

There’s
a tombstone stare down and the action begins. Big Nog grabs center stage
as Cain circles and releases a leg kick.
4.40:
Cain
inside-kicks and follows up with a left to the body.
4.14:
He unleashes a heavy leg kick.
4.07:
His crisp hands catch Antonio with a solid combo.
3.54:
Cain punishes Antonio with another leg kick.
3.48:
And again. These are heavy blows.
3.38:
Nogueira takes a kick on the gloves.
3.29:
Velasquez leg-kicks.
3.22:
He briefly Thai-clinches and brings up a knee.
3.08:
Velasquez inside-kicks.
2.44:
He lets go with a lethal package – a right hook blows Nogueira away.
Result: Cain Velasquez by KO –
2.20, Round One.
