Live from the Oracle Arena – Oakland, CA

Las Vegas, NV (USA) – The middleweight title fight at UFC 117 between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will be accentuated by one of the most stacked cards in UFC history. The main card features the long-awaited rematch between welterweight contenders Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves, as well as such notable fighters such as recent UFC Hall of Fame inductee Matt Hughes, the electrifying Clay Guida, and a heavyweight matchup between two fast rising stars in the division Roy Nelson and Junior Dos Santos. With all of the intriguing fights lined up on the fight card, the championship ramifications in the main event will add the icing to the cake.

The undercard bouts feature the following matchups: Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves, Matt Hughes vs. Ricardo Almeida, Clay Guida vs. Rafael Dos Anjos, Roy Nelson vs. Junior Dos Santos, Thiago Silva vs. Tim Boetsch, Dustin Hazelett vs. Rick Story, Stefan Struve vs. Christian Morecraft, Johny Hendricks vs. Charlie Brenneman, Ben Saunders vs. Dennis Hallman, and Rodney Wallace vs. Stanislav Nedkov.

UFC 117 is available live on Pay-Per-View at 10pm ET/7pm PT on iN DEMAND, DIRECTV, DISH Network, TVN, BellTV, Shaw Communications, Sasktel, and Viewer’s Choice Canada for a suggested retail price of $44.99 US/$49.99 CAN for standard definition or high-definition broadcasts (where available).

The co-main event of UFC 117 will be a showdown to elevate one fighter to the top of contention for the welterweight championship. UFC veteran Jon Fitch (fighting out of San Jose, Calif./ profesional record - 25-3, 1 NC) has had a remarkable career in the organization. One of the division’s most consistent fighters, Fitch has won four fights in a row and has an overall record of 12-1 in the UFC. His lone loss came at the hands of welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre via unanimous decision at UFC 87. The durable fighter from Indiana wrestled collegiately at Purdue University and has the endurance to battle until the end. This decisive battle will be a long awaited rematch as Thiago “The Pitbull” Alves (fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla./22-5) aims to seek revenge on Fitch. The 26-year old fighter has elevated himself to the top of the division by winning nine of his last eleven fights in the UFC. Alves believes he has improved as a fighter more than Fitch has since their last fight in 2006, which he hopes will lead him to victory. The ramifications of this fight extend beyond a statistic on their career record.

The “swing” bout of the evening is an early favorite to garner Fight of the Night honors. The always-exciting Clay “The Carpenter” Guida (fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M. by way of Johnsburg, Ill./26-8) is renowned for his memorable battles in the Octagon. Coming off a submission victory over Shannon Gugerty, Guida has won four of his last six fights. The former collegiate wrestler is set to lock up with the winner of three fights in a row, Rafael Dos Anjos (fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/14-4). The Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion has entered the Octagon twice already in 2010, most recently for UFC 112 when he was able to submit Terry Etim with an armbar at the end of the second round. The young fighter has only had five fights in the UFC, but is steadily climbing the ladder in the lightweight division.

The context of the first welterweight matchup on the main card extends beyond a typical fight, as honor and history are on the line. Recent UFC Hall of Fame inductee Matt Hughes (fighting out of Hillsboro, Ill./45-7) is a legend of the UFC, with 22 fights and a UFC record 17 victories. The two-time UFC welterweight champion has defeated future champions in Georges St-Pierre and BJ Penn, but in the context of this fight, Hughes has defeated Royce Gracie, Matt Serra and Renzo Gracie. Both Serra and Ricardo “Big Dog” Almeida (fighting out of Hamilton, N.J./12-3) are coached by the legendary Renzo Gracie, which sets up the opportunity for Almeida to defend the honor of the Gracie clan. Almeida is on a three fight win streak and a winner of five of his last seven. The four-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu National Champion not only has his own reputation to defend, but the reputation of an entire legendary MMA family.

The Ultimate Fighter® Heavyweights Finale winner Roy Nelson (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev./16-4) has only two UFC fights under his belt, but has scored a first-round knockout in both of them. A grappler with world-class experience and a black belt under Renzo Gracie, he has quickly elevated himself as a worthy heavyweight contender. His matchup with Junior Dos Santos (fighting out of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil/11-1) provides a glimpse into the exciting future of the heavyweight division. Dos Santos has been victorious in his five fights within the organization by way of four knockouts, and a submission victory over Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 103. The Brazilian native’s boxing and jiu-jitsu background have helped establish Dos Santos as a legitimate contender for the heavyweight title.

Thiago Silva (fighting out of Sao Paulo, Brazil/14-2) started his UFC career with a bang, winning his first four fights (three by TKO), dating back to UFC 71 in 2007. He has since battled the elite fighters in the light heavyweight division, including former champions Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans. His latest opponent, Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch (fighting out of Lincolnville, Maine/11-3), makes a return to the UFC after a short hiatus. Previously, Boetsch had four fights in the UFC, establishing a record of 2-2.

Of the five victories that Dustin Hazelett (fighting out of Cincinnati, Ohio/14-5) has obtained in the UFC, four have come via submission. The submission specialist has a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and hopes to secure a win over Rick Story (fighting out of Vancouver, Wash./10-3).The young fighter out of Washington has been on a roll lately, winning his last three fights. Story’s supreme conditioning is exemplified by the fact three of his four fights have gone all three rounds.

In one of the tallest matchups in recent UFC history, the 6’11” Stefan Struve (fighting out of Beverwijk, Netherlands/23-4) is set to face the 6’5 ½ Christian Morecraft (fighting out of Plymouth, Mass./6-0). Known for his height and length, the 22-year-old Struve has utilized his skills in kickboxing and submissions to secure three wins in his five fights in the UFC. Morecraft is making his UFC debut after establishing a solid professional record.

Two-time NCAA Division I national wrestling champion Johny Hendricks (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev./8-0) has split time between the UFC and World Extreme Cagefighting®(WEC®). After winning his first two fights in the WEC, Hendricks made a smooth transition to the UFC and continued his winning ways through his first three fights. His opponent, Charlie Brenneman (fighting out of Whippany, N.J. by way of Hollidaysburg, Pa./12-1), improved his already solid professional record after winning his UFC debut against Jason High last March at UFC Fight Night Live®. Also a former Division I wrestler, this matchup could very well be decided on the ground.

Welterweight striker Ben Saunders (fighting out of Orlando, Fla./8-2-2) has been successful in his UFC career thus far. The aggressive fighter has won four of his six fights, and is the only man to knock out veteran contender Marcus Davis. Although Saunders has had a relatively short fighting career, his opponent Dennis Hallman (fighting out of Yelm, Wash./64-13-2, 1 NC) has had 80 professional fights. Hallman made a return to the UFC at The Ultimate Fighter Heavyweights Finale in December of 2009 after a four year hiatus. The gritty fighter has the experience and knowledge required to secure a longer stay in the UFC.

The opening fight for UFC 117 features two up-and-coming light heavyweights. Rodney Wallace (fighting out of Charlotte, N.C./9-2) made his debut against Brian Stann at The Ultimate Fighter Heavyweights Finale and has since fought Jared Hamman at UFC 111. On August 7th, Wallace is seeking his first victory in the UFC against Stanislav Nedkov (fighting out of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria/11-0). Nedkov is an impressive light heavyweight fighter with a background in wrestling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, who is making his UFC debut at UFC 117.

Sylvia vs. Buentello headlines

‘War on the Mainland’ PPV event

Three PWP Title fights Aug. 14 in Irvine, CA

SAN DIEGO (July 8, 2010) – Two-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim “Maine-iac” Sylvia takes on former UFC and Strikeforce heavyweight title challenger, Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello, in the main event for the vacant Powerhouse World Promotions (PWP), LLC Heavyweight Championship, August 14 on Pay Per View live from Bren Events Center in Irvine, California.

“War on the Mainland,” presented by Powerhouse World Promotions, is being distributed by Integrated Sports Media at 10:00PM ET/6:00PM PT in North America  on cable and satellite Pay-Per-View via iN Demand, DIRECTV, Avail-TVN and DISH Network, as well as Viewer’s Choice, Bell TV and Shaw PPV in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $29.95. It will also be available in the United Kingdom via Primetime Live. The PPV card will also be streamed live on Internet PPV outside of the United States, Canada and United Kingdom by going to www.WarontheMainland.com and registering.

“This event started as a training clinic that we’re still holding August 8 in San Diego,” PWP CEO Brian Manna explained. “It’s a full day, training clinic – MMA, Jiu-Jitsu, striking, boxing kicking, etc. – at Manna’s Martial Arts in San Diego. Tony Martinez (President of Powerhouse) suggested we do a show. We discussed it with members of our team – Joe Moreira, Carlos Palomino, Rodolfo Gonzalez and Burdett Streeter – as well as Doug Jacobs (Integrated Sports Media) and (associate) Benny Ricardo. Pay per view made it an easier sell and we were able to raise capital for the show. Now, people from all over the world will be able to watch our show.

“The depth of our field is unmatched. We not only wanted to make sure that we had three really good fights like we do, but to insure that all of the fights on this show would feature high quality fighters, as well as competitive, entertaining matches. These fights are all very well matched from top to bottom. All of us (Team PWP) are old-school martial artists. We stepped into the ring against anybody that was put in there; the type of show we’re putting on August 14th and few like it exist today in MMA for the public.”

Sylvia (26-6-0), fighting out of Bettendorf, Iowa, is coming off of an impressive second-round submission of 5-time World’s Strongest Man, Mariusz “Dominator” Pudzianowski. During his sensational career, Sylvia (6-8, 300 lbs.) has defeated many of the world’s top MMA heavyweights and super heavyweights – Andrei Arlovski (2) Brandon Vera, Jeff Monson, Wes Sims, Ricco Rodriguez, Mike Whitehead (2), Ben Rothwell and Jason Lambert.

Buentello (6-2, 250 lbs.), fighting out of Amarillo, Texas, has notable victories against “Tank” Abbott, Gary Goodridge, Justin Eilers, Mike Kyle and Kirill “Baby Fedor” Sidelnikov.

Sylvia-Buentello is one of three PWP title fights (5 X 5, all other fights are 3 X 5). Former WEC titlist Jason “The Punisher” Lambert (24-11-0) faces 8-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion Allan Goes (17-3-0) for the vacant PWP Light Heavyweight title belt, while former UFC title challenger Thales Leite (17-3-1) fights Strikeforce veteran Falinko “Niko” Vitale (27-9-0) for the PWP Middleweight crown.

In a Special Lightweight Attraction, former UFC lightweight champion Jens “Little Evil” Pulver (22-13-1), one of the most popular MMA fighters in the world, meets Diego “El Nino” Garijo (4-1-0).

Also fighting on “War on the Mainland” are Brazilian middleweight Gustavo “Ximu” Machado (18-8-1) vs. Rick Reeves (10-3-0), Mexican welterweight Jorge “The Naked Man” Ortiz (16-5-1) vs. veteran Terry Martin (19-8-0), and California lightweights Joao Silva (3-0) vs. Erin Beach (1-0). All fights and fighters are subject to change.

“We’re hitting the ground running,” Manna added. “People all over the world want to fight with us. We’re not interested in signing fighters to long-term contracts. We’re interested in the fighters being self-sufficient and stable. Burdett is a financial advisor and one of our goals is to aid fighters to become more aware of how to make their financial future more stable.”

After a spectacular UFC debut a year ago, Yoshihiro Akiyama (fighting out of Osaka, Japan/13-1, 2 NC professional record) is set to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon. In his first fight, Akiyama won a split decision over Alan Belcher, while also taking home “Fight of the Night” honors in the middleweight contest. Throughout his mixed martial arts career, Akiyama has been known for his submissions and knockout power. While Akiyama is a relative newcomer to the UFC®, his opponent Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev./33-10-1,1 NC) is a veteran of the sport and a legend to his fan base. Having fought in 45 matches, Silva has defeated some of the most notable names in MMA such as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping. Silva is known for his power, as 23 of his 33 victories have come by way of knockout.

Featured in the “swing” bout of UFC® 116, Matt “The Immortal” Brown (fighting out of Cincinnati, Ohio/13-8) has been victorious in three of his last four fights, including a TKO of James Wilks. Brown has excelled in his striking ability and conditioning, however his tenacity will be tested when he battles Chris “Lights Out” Lytle (fighting out of Indianapolis, Ind./38-17-4). Lytle, a former professional boxer and a very experienced welterweight, is coming off two consecutive wins over Kevin Burns and Brian Foster. This fight should be very entertaining as both fighters do not fear exchanging blows for three rounds.

In a highly anticipated light heavyweight rematch, “The American Psycho” Stephan Bonnar (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev./14-7) looks to avenge his TKO loss at UFC® 110, which came due to a cut. Bonnar has been a highly recognized fighter in the UFC® since 2005 after his battle with Forrest Griffin in the finale of the first season of The Ultimate Fighter®. This fight is important for Bonnar to gain some much needed momentum. Krzysztof “The Polish Experiement” Soszynski (fighting out of Temecula, Calif. via Winnipeg, MB, Canada/20-10-1) is not only coming off the victory over Bonnar, but he has also won four of his five fights in the UFC. Not only does he possess the power that he displayed against Bonnar, but he also has an impressive set of submission skills, as two of his four UFC victories have come by way of arm-lock submissions.

Riding a four fight win streak that dates back to September of 2008, Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino (fighting out of Point Pleasant, N.J./21-4) has been a very successful fighter in the UFC®. Pellegrino’s background in wrestling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu have enabled him to become a highly technical fighter, with four of his seven UFC® wins coming by way of submission. His opponent George Sotiropoulos (fighting out of Vancouver, Wash./12-2) has also proved to be an Octagon standout, as he has defeated all five opponents he has faced. Making his debut at The Ultimate Fighter ® Finale 6, The Australian-born lightweight has shown to be a well-rounded fighter who can win through striking or submissions.

Chris “The Crowbar” Tuchscherer (fighting out of Fargo, N.D./18-2, 1 NC) has been able to translate a successful collegiate wrestling background into an impressive MMA record. A two-time Division II All-American and current training partner to UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar, Tuchscherer is coming off a victory over Tim Hague at UFC® 109. With only two fights under his belt in the UFC®, Tuchscherer hopes a win over the up-and-coming Brendan “The Hybrid” Schaub (fighting out of Denver, Colo./6-1) could be a stepping stone to future successes. In his short career, Schaub has impressed many after being the runner-up on the 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter®. Schaub is coming off a TKO of Chase Gormley, who he defeated in just 47 seconds. This fight between these two prospects will be an intriguing heavyweight matchup.

After an intense battle with CB Dollaway at UFC® 110, Goran Reljic (fighting out of Zadar, Croatia/8-1) is up against another tough fighter at UFC® 116. Reljic has an impressive overall record, with two bouts in the UFC®. The Croatian fighter is a counter striker, with knockout power from his hands and feet, which is a dangerous combination for his opponent Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove (fighting out of Maui, HI/13-7, 1 NC). At 6-foot-6, Grove has a reach that makes him a tough matchup for most middleweights. The veteran Hawaiian fighter has shown to be well-rounded, as his last three wins have come from three different methods (decision, TKO, submission).

Ricardo Romero (fighting out of North Brunswick, N.J./10-1) will be making his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut at UFC 116 in an attempt to take his MMA career to another level. Romero has accumulated 10 wins in his career and has shown he is not fond of leaving his fate in the hands of the judges, as nine of those wins have come by way of knockout or submission. “The Silverback” Seth Petruzelli (fighting out of Orlando, Fla./14-5) is a training partner of UFC veteran Tom Lawlor and makes his return back to the UFC. With a notable win over Kimbo Slice, Petruzelli’s first fight back has garnered plenty of buzz among fight fans.

Another fighter making his UFC debut is Dave Branch (fighting out of Brooklyn, N.Y./6-0), who is undefeated in his short MMA career. He has a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is a member of the Renzo Gracie fight team. His opponent Gerald “Hurricane” Harris (fighting out of Tulsa, Okla./15-2) has a wrestling background and uses powerful slams. Harris has defeated his last two opponents by TKO, most recently taking down Mario Miranda at UFC® Fight Night in March.

Daniel “Ninja” Roberts (fighting out of Tulsa, Okla./9-1) is a very athletic fighter who is a former college wrestler. He has combined his wrestling background with jiu-jitsu to post an impressive record, with most of his victories coming via submission. Now the Oklahoma product looks to get his 10th professional win against a very experienced opponent. Forrest Petz (fighting out of Cleveland, Ohio/24-7) will be making his return to the UFC. “The Meat Cleaver” has won five out of seven fights since 2007 and the Cleveland native looks to continue his winning ways back in the UFC.

With only seven professional fights under his belt, Karlos “The Terminator” Vemola (fighting out of Prague, Czech Republic/7-0) is not only a newcomer to the UFC, but also to the sport itself. Vemola has won all of his fights in his career, with three by knockout and four by submission. Jon Madsen (fighting out of Granite City, Ill./5-0) is another fighter who is undefeated through his short career. A former Division II National wrestling champion, Madsen has two victories in the UFC, most recently a unanimous decision win over Mostapha Al Turk at UFC 112.

Fighting legend Mirko Cro Cop (fighting out of Zagreb, Croatia/26-7-2, 1 NC) returns to the Octagon in hopes of adding Pat Barry (fighting out of Milwaukee, Wisc./5-1 record) to his long list of highlight reel knockouts. With wins over Wanderlei Silva, Mark Coleman and Kevin Randleman, Cro Cop has faced and finished some of the biggest names in the sport. The dangerous Croatian kickboxer has won two out of his last three in the Octagon and faces a rising star in Pat Barry. The New Orleans native has won two out of three in the UFC and is coming off a big TKO win against Antoni Hardonk. Known for his willingness to stand and trade punches, Barry is an explosive athlete who also boasts ferocious leg kicks and will be gunning for the biggest victory of his young career.

Paulo Thiago (fighting out of Brasilia, Brazil/13-1 record) has taken the UFC’s welterweight division by storm, emerging from obscurity to defeat Josh Koscheck, Mike Swick and Jacob Volkmann. Now the heavy-handed Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt looks to continue his march toward the title when he faces UFC veteran Martin Kampmann (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev./16-3). Winner of three of his past four inside of the Octagon, including a thrilling victory over highly-regarded Carlos Condit, Kampmann looks to get his 17th win as a professional.

Always gunning for a knockout from start to finish, and with 30 KOs in his 36 wins, Gilbert Yvel (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev./36-14-1, 1 NC) gets his wish more often than not. On June 12, the Amsterdam-born slugger will once again be swinging for the fences against 6-foot-4, 265-pound Ben Rothwell (fighting out of Milwaukee, Wisc./30-7). Vastly experienced with more than three dozen pro fights under his belt, “Big Ben” has finished 28 of his opponents and holds notable victories over Ricco Rodriguez and Roy “Big Country” Nelson.

After narrowly losing an action-packed bout to Martin Kampmann in his UFC debut, Carlos Condit (fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M./24-5) rebounded with a spirited win over Jake Ellenberger. Condit is a former world champion of the WEC® and most of his recent bouts have been strong candidates for Fight of the Night. After being sidelined with an injury, the 26-year-old is ready to return and make unbeaten Rory MacDonald (fighting out of Kelowna B.C. Canada/10-0) his 25th victim. The baby-faced MacDonald, who at the tender age of 20 is the youngest fighter currently in the UFC, has publicly stated his intentions to someday become “the greatest fighter to ever live.” The pride of Kelowna is already 1-0 in the UFC and beating Condit would be a huge step toward fulfilling his monumental goals.

Having waged many memorable wars inside of the Octagon, the biggest moment in the career of Tyson Griffin (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev./14-2) came at UFC 103 when he knocked out former title challenger Hermes Franca in devastating fashion to cap a stellar 2009. The Fight of the Night master now turns his attention to teammate Evan Dunham (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev./10-0), an extremely dangerous prospect who owns a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, high-caliber wrestling skills and has yet to lose as a pro.

Winner of the sixth season of The Ultimate Fighter®, Mac Danzig (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev./20-7-1) is coming off of a victory over Justin Buchholz and aims to do the same against Matt Wiman (fighting out of Dallas, TX/11-5). With wins over Buchholz, Thiago Tavares and Shane Nelson, Wiman is always down for a slugfest and will likely look to keep it standing against Danzig, who is quite crafty on the canvas.

Known as one of the best Canadian fighters in the world today, David Loiseau (fighting out of Montreal, Quebec, Canada/19-9) is looking to start his journey back to the top of the middleweight division. In order for him to make his run at the title, Loiseau must start by defeating Mario Miranda (fighting out of Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/11-1).  Known for his strong wrestling ability, Miranda showed that he was more than a one-dimensional fighter when he decided to stand and trade punches during his first UFC bout against Gerald Harris.

Winner of season nine of The Ultimate Fighter, James Wilks (fighting out of Laguna Hills, Calif./7-3) wants to prove to everyone that his success inside of The Ultimate Fighter house wasn’t some kind of fluke. Believing that he can compete with the fighters in the division, Wilks knows that his dream of becoming a champion starts with a victory over Peter Sobotta (fighting out of Geislingen, Germany/8-2). Known for having a large base of fans in Europe, Sobotta wants to give his fans an excellent performance when he fights in Canada for the first time.

Ricardo Funch (fighting out of Ludlow, MA/7-1) earned respect from many fans when he battled Johny Hendricks in his first outing inside the Octagon. Although he came up short on the scorecards, Funch believes that his luck will be different when he faces off against Canadian Claude Patrick (fighting out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada/11-1).  Known for his submission abilities, Patrick will undoubtedly be going for Submission of the Night honors come fight time.

Known for wanting to fight the best possible opponent each time he enters the Octagon, Mike Pyle (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev./18-7-1) is a dangerous submission fighter that turned heads in the UFC when he submitted Chris Wilson last September. The Dresden, Tennessee native is almost certain to be in the middle of another exciting fight when he squares off against Jesse Lennox (fighting out of Bettendorf, IA/15-2).  Having allowed only two of his 17 professional fights to end up in the hands of the judges, it’s safe to say that a highlight-reel finish will happen for one of these fighters before the 15-minute mark.

Sylvia forces Pudzianowski to submit in second round

WORCESTER, Mass. (May 21, 2010) – Former 2-time UFC champion Tim “Maine-iac” Sylvia forced 5-time World’s Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski to tap-out in the second round of the super heavyweight main event of this evening’s “Moosin” God Of Martial Arts” mixed martial arts pay-per-view show at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Sylvia, a native of Eastbrook, Maine, used his experience, arm length and boxing skills to defeat Pudzianowski, who was making his U.S. debut in only his third pro fight.

“This feels great, man,” Sylvia said after the fight. “I’m back. Mariusz Pudzianowski is one helluva tough guy. This provides me with an opportunity to get another big fight, hopefully in three months. It didn’t go as I had planned. I thought I’d knock him out in the first round but I was a little cautious. My corner told me after the first round I could do anything because he was gassed. Once he failed on the takedowns, I knew I had him.”

In the co-main event, heavyweight Travis Wiuff recorded his 61st win, unloading a vicious left hook, followed by two rights that dropped Josh Barnes, which ended the fight only 34 seconds into the opening round.

Middleweight Rafael Natal (12-2-0) stopped Travis Lutter (10-6-0) by way of unanswered strikes in the opening round of their middleweight match.

“Moosin: God Of Martial Arts” pay-per-view event at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Boston lightweight Mike Campbell (9-2) registered the most significant victory of his young career, taking a 3-round decision from veteran (Yves Edwards (37-15-1) in a back-and-forth fight.

In a rematch featuring two of the top female MMA fighters in the world, Roxy Modaferri (15-5-0) avenged her loss, winning a split decision against Tara LaRosa (18-2-0).

Polish heavyweight Lukasz Jurkowski improved his record to 15-9, striking Ho Jin Kim with back-to-back right hands for a first-round knockout.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (May 4, 2010) – After months of anticipation, the world’s No. 1 heavyweight and pound-for-pound Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter, Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko (31-1), will make his eagerly awaited return to the cage to face two-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion and top-ranked superstar Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum (13-4) in a STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL co-promoted event at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. on Saturday, June 26,  live on SHOWTIME® at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

The Fedor-Werdum match will headline an event which will feature up to five televised fights on SHOWTIME and several non-televised undercard bouts that will be announced in the coming weeks.

A special pre-sale ticket purchase opportunity for the event will take place for “STRIKEFORCE Insider” e-newsletter subscribers (http://strikeforce.com/insider.html) from 10 a.m. PT Monday, May 10, until 10 p.m. PT on Thursday, May 13Insiders will receive an e-newsletter with the pre-sale code.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. PT on Friday, May 14, at the HP Pavilion box office, all Ticketmaster locations (800) 745-3000, Ticketmaster online (www.ticketmaster.com) as well as www.strikeforce.com. For more information, please also visit www.M-1GLOBAL.com.

For M-1 GLOBAL’s Fedor, it is a means of gaining revenge three and a half years after the 32-year-old Werdum defeated Fedor’s brother Aleksander Emelianenko, via submission (arm triangle choke) in the first round (3:24) of a bout in Rotterdam, Holland, on Nov. 12, 2006.

The M-1 GLOBAL superstar is simply referred to as "Fedor" by millions of fans around the world.  He stands at 6-foot, 235-pounds and hails from Stary Oskol, Russia.  He has become the most dominant MMA fighter of all-time since he began his professional career 10 years ago.

Fedor is one of the founders of M-1 GLOBAL and has competed for the organization since its inception more than two years ago.  The 33-year-old has faced and defeated nearly every other rival superstar and champion of this era, including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, Andrei Arlovski and Mark “The Hammer” Coleman.

A master of the Russian military combat system, Sambo, Fedor made his live, primetime network television (CBS) debut in his last start on Nov. 7, 2009, when he faced unbeaten rising star Brett “The Grim” Rogers in a STRIKEFORCE and M-1 Global co-promoted event. After a difficult first round in which he sustained a cut and began bleeding profusely, the Russian suddenly turned the tide in the second round, sending Rogers to the canvas with a right hand and finishing him with a series of punches.

While the fight world still regards him as undefeated, Fedor actually has one official loss on his record, the result of a doctor stoppage due to a cut he sustained seconds into a matchup with Japan’s Tsuyoshi Kosaka on Dec. 22, 2000.  Fedor avenged the TKO loss with his own first round TKO of Kosaka at a PRIDE Fighting Championships event in Japan on April 3, 2005.

Since joining the ranks of STRIKEFORCE, the 6-foot-4, 240 pound Werdum, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and member of Brazil’s vaunted Chute Boxe fight squad, has notched a pair of impressive victories, the first of which came on Aug. 15, 2009 when he quickly submitted Mike “Mak” Kyle with a guillotine choke in the first round (1:24) at HP Pavilion. The following Nov., 7, Werdum battled his way to a close unanimous decision victory over Antonio “Big Foot” Silva in a live CBS primetime televised matchup.

During an eight-year tenure in MMA, Werdum has conquered a number of other superstars, including reigning STRIKEFORCE World Heavyweight Champion, Alistair “The Demolition Man” Overeem; and UFC stars Gabriel Gonzaga and Brandon “The Truth” Vera.

Sylvia vs. Pudzianowski headlines

“Moosin: God of Martial Arts” PPV event

1st major MMA show in Massachusetts

May 21 at DCU Center in Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 27, 2010) – The first 5-time World’s Strongest Man, Polish icon Mariusz “Dominator” Pudzianowski, makes his United States debut May 21 against 2-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim “Maine-iac” Sylvia (25-6-0) in the super heavyweight main event, headlining the first major mixed-martial-arts show in Massachusetts history, “God of Martial Arts” pay-per-view event, at the DCU Center in Worcester.

“God of Martial Arts” is being presented by Moosin, the South Korea-based promotional company, which has promoted MMA shows in South Korea and the United States. Moosin, in conjunction with the International Taekwon-Do Federation, plans expansion into to China, Poland and Australia.

The 6-1,275-pound Pudzianowski (1-0), a national hero in Poland, won his cage debut last December, forcing Marcin Najman to tap-out to punches and kicks in only 43 seconds. In addition to his feats of strength as the World’s Strongest Man, Marius practices karate and finished second in Poland’s version of “Dancing With The Stars.”

During his sensational career, Ellsworth, Maine-native Sylvia (6-8, 280 lbs.) has defeated many of the top MMA heavyweights and super heavyweights – Andrei Arlovski (2) Brandon Vera, Jeff Monson, Wes Sims, Ricco Rodriguez, Mike Whitehead (2), Ben Rothwell and Jason Lambert.

“The owner of Moosin, Mr. Oh, is an affluent Korean businessman who owns a global Yaekwon-Do company in South Korea,” Moosin’s Corey Fischer explained. “This (Moosin) isn’t about money; it’s about prestige. He wants to leave his legacy as the man who brought MMA to the forefront of the world, bringing it back to being a traditional sport. We’re coming to Massachusetts to put on the first major, sanctioned MMA show there because of its reputation for having great fight fans. ‘Butterbean’ (Eric Esch), who works with our promotional company, has fought in Worcester a few times. He loves it there and has developed a lot of good contacts in that market, too. Sylvia’s experience against Pudzianowski’s brute strength makes for a classic contrast of fighting styles. We’re going to feature some other big names, mix in some of the best talent in New England, and produce an awesome pay-per-view show.”

In the co-main event, Korean heavyweight Mu Bae “The Heavy Tank of Busan” Choi (9-4-0) battles veteran Travis “Diesel” Wiuff (59-14-0). Brazilian middleweight Rafael “Sapo” Natal (11-2-0) takes on Travis “The Serial Killer” Lutter (10-5-0), while Bahamian lightweight Yves “The Texas Gunslinger” Edwards (37-15-1) faces New England’s rising-star Mike Campbell (7-2-0).

A special female attraction has been added featuring two of the premier women MMA fighters in the U.S., Tara LaRosa (18-1-0) and Roxy Modafferi (13-4-0), at a 130-pound catch-weight.

“God of Martial Arts” is being distributed by Integrated Sports Media at 9:00PM ET/6:00PM PT in North America on cable and satellite Pay-Per-View via iN Demand, DIRECTV, TVN and DISH Network, as well as Viewer’s Choice, Bell TV and Shaw PPV in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $29.95 (also available in HD).

The show has worldwide appeal but also features several local favorites on the undercard: Korean light heavyweight Chang Seob Lee (2-4-0) vs. Lukasz “Juras” Jurkowski (5-6-0), Clinton’s Matt Lee (11-8-1) vs. Bridgewater’s Brett Oteri (5-0-0) in a match-up of Massachusetts lightweights, unbeaten Worcester (Mass.) welterweight Ralph Johnson vs. NAAFS champion Forrest “The Meat Clever” Petz (23-7-0 undefeated Rockland (Mass.) heavyweight Paul Barry (3-0-0) vs. Stipe Miocic (1-0-0), Stoughton (Mass.) middleweight Fred “French Foot Fighter” Belleton (6-2-0) vs. Anthony “The Recipe” Lapsley (14-5-0).

Also, fan favorite Eric “Butterbean” Esch (98-18-5, all-fighting) squares-off against former Boston Bruins enforcer and popular WAAF sports personality, Lyndon “LB” Byers, in a charity fundraiser. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets, priced at $35.75, $55.75, $75.75, $150.75 and $250.75, are on sale at the DCU Center Box Office (50 Foster St., Worcester, MA), all Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com, or by calling 1.800.745.3000.

Doors open at 7:30 PM/ET, first bout 8:00 PM/ET, first PPV bout 9 PM/ET (6 PM/PT).

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP® RETURNS

TO MONTREAL FOR UFC® 113:
MACHIDA vs. SHOGUN 2

LYOTO “THE DRAGON” MACHIDA vs. MAURICIO “SHOGUN” RUA

UFC LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Live from the Bell Centre, Saturday May 8, 2010 – Tickets on sale Saturday, Feb 20 at 10 a.m. ET

Las Vegas, NV (USA) – It was so good, the UFC® decided to do it again.

At UFC 104 last October, UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida and challenger Mauricio “Shogun” Rua engaged in a five round war that divided the mixed martial arts world when the unanimous decision verdict was rendered in Machida’s favor. On Saturday, May 8, these two warriors will have a chance to do it again and erase any doubt as to who is the best 205-pound fighter in the world, and both are vowing to take matters out of the judges’ hands, and into their own when The Ultimate Fighting Championship® heads back to Montreal for UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun 2, live from the Bell Centre and only on Pay-Per-View.

“The first fight between Machida and Shogun was very controversial, I think fans are very excited to see them fight again and find out who the best light heavyweight in the world is,” said UFC President Dana White.

Tickets for UFC 113 will go on sale Saturday, February 20 at 10am ET and will be priced at $600, $400, $250, $150, $100 and $50. Tickets are available at the Bell Centre box office, by phone at (514) 790-2525 / 1-877-668-8269 or at www.geg.ca.

UFC® Fight Club members will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to this event Thursday, February 18 at 10 a.m. ET via the website ufc.com.  A special Internet ticket pre-sale will be available to UFC newsletter subscribers Friday, February 19 starting at 10 a.m. ET. To access this presale, users must register for the UFC newsletter through ufc.com.

UFC 113 will be available live on pay-per-view on iN DEMAND, DIRECTV, DISH Network, TVN, Bell ExpressVu, Shaw Communications and Viewer’s Choice Canada for a suggested retail price of $44.95 for standard definition or high-definition broadcasts (where available).

With eight fights and eight wins in the UFC, Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida (fighting out of Belem, Brazil, 16-0 professional record) is cementing his place as one of the most dangerous men in the Octagon™ in any weight class. The 31-year-old Machida Karate black belt turned many heads with his wins over Thiago Silva, Tito Ortiz and Rameau Sokoudjou, but it was his second round knockout over then champion Rashad Evans at UFC 98 last May, that put him at the top of the 205-pound class. But on May 8th, he expects to be pushed to the limit once again as he turns his attention back to the man that gave him his greatest challenge yet.

With TKO victories over Mark Coleman and Chuck Liddell, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (fighting out of Curitiba, Brazil, 18-4) re-established himself as one of the premier light heavyweights on the planet. The devastating 28-year-old striker came the closest to putting a blemish on Machida’s undefeated record last October and the former PRIDE® star, who holds wins over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Ricardo Arona, Kevin Randleman and Alistair Overeem, now looks to capture the very same title he came so close to winning in 2009.

We are hosting 2 tournaments on the Gold Coast, 1 at Harvey Bay, and 1 at Caboolture this year. Anyone else interested in hosting their own ISKA tournament please let us know at the earliest to book in. Contact us on 07 55274911 or 0447332211

We are looking forward to hosting GALA DINNER night to recognize competitors, Instructors and Sponsors. We are already putting together a plan for having a STATE OF ORGIN (QLD vs NSW vs Vic) competition which will also include $1000 cash money for the Winning Team.

We are organizing the first ISKA tournament on the Gold Coast on 28th Sunday March 2010. Venue of the tournament will be at All Saints Anglican School Basket Ball Stadium. Address Highfield Dr Merrimac QLD 4226.

There are 9 Events your students are welcome to participate in. This is a 3 star tournament and entry forms will be available from next week. Discounts for early bird registrations.

We need Instructors for Judging & Referring. On the 27th March there will be a Judging & Referring Accreditation course under ISKA. This is a good opportunity for your Senior Kyu grades and Black Belts to get their qualifications. More information will be posted.

Kind Regards
