On July 8, M-1 Challenge XXVI: Bennett vs Garner will be shown Live from the Hangar in Costa Mesa, California.
Originally billed as Guram vs. Bennett, Kenny ‘Deuce’ Garner stepped in to replace the injured Guram Gugenishvili for the main event. It was actually Pat Bennett who requested Kenny Garner be his opponent, hoping to revenge his loss to Deuce at the M-1 Selection Americas tournament finals on September 18 last year.
Kenny Garner is one of the most colourful characters in MMA today and says he was glad to accept the invitation, again, after beating Pat Bennett by TKO at 2.31 into the first round of their last meeting. In an exchange of quotable quotes, Pat Bennett declared, “I’m still training as if this were a five round fight.” Kenny Garner replied, “I will end this fight faster than the last time I beat him, trust me.”
Kenny ‘Deuce’ Garner kindly took time between workouts at American Top Team in Port St. Lucie (ATTPSL) to chat with Knucklepit about his upcoming showdown at M-1 Challenge XXVI.
Kenny, what were your initial thoughts when you got the call for this rematch with Pat Bennett? I couldn't be happier about fighting for M-1 Global and I’mma gonna beat Pat's brains out once again. What weight do you expect to be for this fight? Probably around 255 Lbs. I've been training a lot and have kept active. I'm coming in to this fight in great shape. Pat has been preparing for five 5-minute rounds, and you’ve taken this match on short notice. Will cardio be a problem for you? Who said he's making it out of the 1st round?? He won't! Nobody is making it out of the 1st round with me... If you make it out of the first round with Deuce, you should put it on your resume. You also took your bout against Guram Gugenishvili on short notice after Maxim Grishin withdrew due to a knee injury. If this upcoming fight goes your way, do you believe the experience you now have will enable you to defeat Guram? Man, I already beat Guram. I beat him up for the first round and one mistake cost me the fight. I'll get that one back though. Can you give a brief rundown of your last meeting with Pat Bennett, please, Kenny? No problem... I beat his brains out in just over a minute… Nothing will change this time out either. Who have you been training with for this match? And what aspect of your game has each person assisted you with? Working my hands with Paulie "Gloves" Gavoni… and my MMA with Din Thomas's ATTPSL squad. How do you think your styles match up? They don't. I proved that already. Pat is in big trouble.
Pat says he’s been focusing on improving his striking lately. Do you believe he will be prepared to stand and bang with you? Not by the hair of his no havin' chinnny chin chin.... Pat requested this rematch with you. What are your thoughts? Poor guy! Your prediction for the fight? Pat's going to want to retire after this fight. Your sponsors? ATTPSL, Paulie 'Gloves', SNAP fightwear, Crystal Palace "Batcave", Family Life Worship Center. Thanks guys! Kenny, is there anything you’d like to add? Thanks to M1 Global, Showtime and all my fans, friends, training partners… ATTPSL all day, every day. Thank you very much for your time, Kenny. No problem!
