ABSOLUTE FEDOR presented by FightSport
© Marc Wickert
The DVD Absolute Fedor presents 13 of Fedor Emelianenko’s highlight matches from Pride, and contains a further five bonus fights, including four from Rings. Although this DVD is a collection of some of Fedor’s best fights and is extremely entertaining to watch, it also provides a unique opportunity for the viewer to study the disc as an instructional DVD and learn from the greatest fighter in history. In Absolute Fedor, the mighty Russian takes on the world’s best heavyweights and dominates each opponent whilst displaying his mastery of each aspect of mixed martial arts. THE BOUTS Fedor Emelianenko vs. Heath Herring – Pride 23, November 24, 2002 Interestingly, Pride has both mens’ disciplines listed as sambo for this match. Heath Herring is a hard man with impeccable credentials and puts up a great fight, whilst Fedor showcases his ferocious firepower and dominant grappling skills. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira – Pride 25, March 16, 2003 At this time in “Big Nog’s” career with Pride, he is regarded as the world’s top Brazilian jiu jitsu heavyweight and this is an excellent opportunity for Fedor to test his sambo game against Antonio’s BJJ. Fedor’s ground’n’pound is outstanding here. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Kazuyuki Fujita – Pride 26, June 8, 2003 Mirko Cro Cop watches from ringside for this one, in anticipation, as we see Fedor getting rattled by a huge right from Kazuyuki. But Emelianenko weathers the storm and shows why he is the greatest fighter of all time. The awesome firepower exchanged in this contest is a treat for any enthusiast. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Gary Goodridge – Pride GP, August 10, 2003 “Big Daddy” Goodridge’s discipline is listed as arm wrestling, despite his extensive MMA background. Fedor comes out with all guns blazing and it’s amazing how his savage punches always sound so uniquely different to any other fighter’s. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Mark Coleman – Pride GP, April 25, 2004 Mark Coleman is a world-class wrestler and wears shoes to provide extra traction for his takedowns against Emelianenko. Wrestlers are known for their superior positioning and scrambling on the ground, and Mark attempts to test Fedor’s sambo here. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Kevin Randleman – Pride GP, June 20, 2004 Kevin is another great gladiator from Mark Coleman’s Hammer House gym and he comes out seeking revenge for Fedor’s beating of Coleman. Remarkably, Emelianenko survives a brutal suplex that surely would have stopped any other human out there. Breathtaking footage! Fedor Emelianenko vs. Naoya Ogawa – Pride GP, August 15, 2004 Southpaw Naoya has an attitude entering this fight and rudely refuses to touch mitts with Fedor. Not smart. Emelianenko maintains his gentlemanly demeanor; however it doesn’t stop him from whooping Naoya’s butt. Fedor Emalianenko vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira – Pride GP, August 15, 2004 “Big Nog” has a recent victory over Cro Cop and both Fedor and Antonio possess heavyweight belts, so this meeting provides an opportunity to unify the belts. Again Cro Cop watches from the wings, but an accidental clash of heads pulls this bout up after Emelianenko sustains a deep cut over his right eye. Nogueira later claims in his book, Mastering Martial Arts: The Guard, that Fedor received the cut whilst attempting to head-butt Big Nog. The same view is also expressed by Nogueira on this DVD as he leaves the arena. Fedor Emalianenko vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira- Pride Shockwave, December 31, 2004 In their third meeting, Antonio has the opportunity to back up his accusations from their last contest and settle any grievances he may think he has with Fedor. Watch Emelianenko effortlessly take Nogueira down throughout this fight. Pride rules allow competitors to kick downed opponents and Fedor makes full use of this legality during Emelianenko vs. Nogueira #3. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tsuyoshi Kohsaka – Pride Bushido 6, April 5, 2005 This competition showcases Fedor’s devastating ground’n’pound techniques. It’s staggering how brutally destructive he is on the mats. Even on the ground, Emelianenko’s strikes sound different to any other fighter’s. If you want to improve your g’n’p-ing, this is the fight to study. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Mirko Cro Cop – Pride GP, August 28, 2005 Here is the match-up Cro Cop has been waiting for. In Emelianenko’s book, Fedor: The Fighting System of the World’s Undisputed King of MMA, he says that Mirko claimed Fedor was dodging him; however from the very beginning of this showdown, Emelianenko is the hunter, always coming after Cro Cop. Fedor does take some big shots from the southpaw, but the Russian is a generous man and always gives more than he receives. This contest lives up to expectations and Fedor doesn’t disappoint. Fedor Emeliananko vs. Zuluzinho – Pride Shockwave, December 31, 2005 Here is a classic example of two old adages: size doesn’t matter, and the bigger they are – the harder they fall. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Mark Coleman – Pride 32, October 21, 2006 Fedor has already cleaned out the Hammer House, and so Mark tries to mount another challenge to rock Emelianenko’s supremacy. There’s no secret to Coleman’s strategy – he wants this to be a wrestling match. Even when he gets Fedor on his back, Fedor is a cool, calculating, wrecking machine.
BONUS BOUTS Fedor Emelianenko vs. Mark Hunt – Pride Shockwave, December 31, 2006. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Ricardo Arona – Rings King of Kings, December 22, 2000. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Renato Babalu Sobral – Rings 10TH Anniversary, August 11, 2001. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Lee Hasdell – Rings World Series 5, December 21, 2001. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Chris Haseman – Rings World Title Series Grand Final, February 15, 2002.
